Watch Out!

Lately we’ve noticed a lot of cats roaming around our house and hanging out particularly in our back yard.  We’ve never had these feline guests just pop in as much as we’ve seen lately.

What could be the reason for their frequent surprise visits?  It’s not that we’re leaving tempting morsels to entice them in or giant balls of yarn to play with or scratch posts.  So, why were they here?  Why all of the sudden has our house become the happening hangout spot.
A few days later we had our “ah hah” moment.  The cats were not drawn to our neighborly hospitality nor our peaceful conversations.  They were drawn to what we had in our backyard.  Birds.  Countless birds.  Brown ones, beautiful red ones, spectacular blue ones.  Birds of all colors, shapes and sizes.
Recently my wife put out bird feeders for all of our winged friends.  And they came.  They came from all around.  I could see the expression on their faces when they made their landing arrival in our backyard.  They’re happy.  Joy fills the air.  They play and chirp and enjoy a buffet of bird treats.  But somewhere lurking in the shadows is danger.  The cats are waiting for one bird not paying attention or one bird that’s injured and frail or one bird that’s too young to notice the danger that is upon it.  It makes me want to shout “watch out birds!”, “keep your eyes open at all times!”, “Don’t get too comfortable!”.
It reminds me of a verse in 1 Peter 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.(NLT)  In our lives as Christians, no matter how good life may seem, no matter how well things are going, the enemy is always lurking in the shadows ready to devour us.  That’s why we must always be on guard.  We must always be alert.  We must always be ready when satan attacks.  But we can be comforted by the fact that, Our God is greater! (1 John 4:4)  When the enemy comes to wreak havoc in your life remember this verse.  It’s found in James 4:7.  Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Today be encouraged that God is greater and you are victorious over the enemy!
