Jim Walker

 

I was born November 5, 1942 in Putnam County Tennessee and reared in Detroit, Michigan. I received Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of nine and answered the call to preach at the age of nineteen October 22, 1961 while a student at Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee. It was at college that I met my wife Joyce and we were married August 18, 1962. I graduated from Free Will Baptist Bible College in 1964. I began my first pastorate April 17, 1963 and have been a pastor for forty-eight years. I have been the pastor of First Free Will Baptist Church of Greenwood, Arkansas since July 7, 1996. Joyce and I have two sons which are ordained ministers. Mark is the minister of music in Albany, Georgia and Darren is minister of youth and associate pastor in Washington, North Carolina. Last but not least we have six granddaughters. The passion of my ministry for these forty-eight years has been to see people receive Christ as their Lord and Savior and pour myself into the lives of those I have the privilege to minister to.

The Lord called my wife, Marlana, and I to Greenwood First in September 2009 after serving in the Northwest Arkansas area for a few years. We have two beautiful children (Landon and Livia) and they are the joy of our lives.

It's a great honor to serve the people of Greenwood and to serve under such a wonderful Pastor. Our desire is to see our students become totally devoted followers of Christ.

In the world that we live there are so many things that are trying to pull our kids away from the truth. In our VISION Student and JR CHURCH kid services we want to create an atmosphere where kids are comfortable and captivated without forsaking the truth of the Gospel.
